Copper Harbor Boat Works Custom Wood Boats Building Process

Copper Harbor Boat Works Custom Wood Boats Building ProcessAt Copper Harbor Boat Works we seal every one of our boats with West Systems ® epoxy.  Designed specifically for marine construction, West Systems, is a leader in marine epoxies with over thirty years worth of proven products to meet the needs of the modern boat builder. West Systems ® epoxy makes a superior adhesive for all joints and an excellent sealer for all wood surfaces.

Copper Harbor Boat Works dry fits every piece of wood on our boats then coats them with two to three coats of West Systems ® epoxy.  This makes wood on our boats impervious to water allowing for a wooden boat that is virtually waterproof, unlike wooden boats built without the use of a modern epoxy which must soak and swell in order to prevent leaking.

Copper Harbor Boat Works Custom Wood Boats Building ProcessOver time, edges of planks would crush from all the swelling and the boat would inevitably develop leaks.  When wood reaches a certain moisture level, rot spores will begin to break the fibers down. Our boats are always dry; water is virtually unable to penetrate the wood which means an almost non-existent potential for rot.

We build with the customer in mind who really loves the look, lines, and feel of a hand-crafted wooden boat. Copper Harbor Boat Works offers beautiful wooden boats that are durable and require minimal maintenance.
